One of the most charming Tuscany villas, lovely stone farmhouse situated in panoramic location offering splendid views over the Chiana Valley and over the ancient church S. Maria delle Grazie al Calcinaio. This charming villa is very close to the centre of Cortona, a beautiful small medieval Tuscan town whose origins date back to the Etruscan period. The villa has been recently restored but it still preserves many of its original details like the ancient terracotta-tiled floors and the beamed ceilings. The interiors are tastefully furnished mostly with some antique pieces offering a cosy atmosphere.
Distances: Cortona with all kinds of shops 1 km, Camucia 1 km, Arezzo about 30 km. Perugia and Siena are approx. 50 km away. The access to the villa is via an unpaved but well-maintained road. The road leading to Cortona passes approx. 50 m from the property away.
At guests’ disposal: terraced garden offering extensive views over the surrounding landscape and small stone swimming-pool (3,5 x 4 m - open from 01/05 to 30/09) provided with hydromassage streams and charming waterfall, barbecue. Laundry with washing-machine and iron. All of the bedrooms are provided with air-conditioning. Parking within the grounds.
Extra services: maid service available by arrangement (€ 15,- / per hour to be paid on the spot). Baby bed available on request (€ 45,- / per week payment on the spot). Sofa-bed (available on request with an extra charge of € 80,- / per week payable on site).

    Calcinaio

Staying at Il Calcinaio was a definite highlight of our trip to Italy. Our family of five, with three young children, was very comfortable here and the location was perfect for exploring Tuscany. The house has been remodeled to a very high standard and the yard, view, olive trees, church, and town of Cortona made for a perfect setting. Many thanks--

    Calcinaio

Calcinaio has been beautifully and artfully restored and we had a very
comfortable stay. Home-made jam, a bottle of wine and a magnificent bowl
of tomatoes awaited us on arrival. There is a little traffic noise and the
driveways take a bit of manouvering but the quality of the property
overrides all of this. Turn the fountain on and relax out by the pool with
    a good drink!

In general, this is a fabulous central location for the region and a lovely villa. The house, pool and garden were delightful, well stocked and comfortable. The air conditioning units in the bedrooms are a huge advantage in the summer months.

Beautiful area with many good restarants and some excellent ones as well as wonderful local wines and just far enough off the “main” tourist track to avoid the log jam of tourist coaches at some of the other hillside towns. To this point in time Cortona has managed to retain a certain local feel, despite the fact that it remains a popular, if not too crowded tourist destination.
